In this privacy statement, you can read about how we handle your data. We find it very important that the data of our donors, future donors, website visitors, and all interested parties are processed and secured with the utmost care.
We are entirely dependent on the donations we receive from our donors. With these contributions, we work hard towards a future without the use of laboratory animals. Our focus is on science, but we are also active in the fields of education and politics. We also ensure that animal-free innovation is put on the agenda at health funds.
To achieve our goal, we process personal data. Personal data may only be processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Data collection
When you contact us, we record the personal information you provide. This could be through phone contact or email, as well as when you fill out the contact form on our website or express interest in receiving our newsletter. We also record data when you indicate you want to make a donation.
In addition to online contact, you might meet us on the street, at events, or at your door. If you decide to become a donor or to stay in contact with us, the information you provide will also be recorded.
The personal data that is recorded includes:
- Initials, first and last name
- Personal code
- Address details
- Phone number
- Email address
- Date of birth
- IBAN
- Frequency and amount of your donation
- Correspondence
We process your data for:
- Processing donations in our donor administration. We also manage our financial administration to comply with tax laws.
- Informing you by phone or email about animal-free projects we invest in, occasionally requesting a donation. This way, we make animal-free research possible together.
- Recording which campaigns (email marketing, telemarketing, and mail) we may or may not contact you about.
- Logging our contact moments, such as signing a petition.
- Conducting market research (with minimal privacy impact) to tailor our services to the needs of our donors.
- Keeping track of website statistics.
- Facilitating the sharing of our message through social media.
- Handling complaints.
- Conducting audits or improving services.
Legal grounds for processing
There are several legal grounds on which we may process your data. Below, we explain these grounds.
- You have given consent for the use of your data. The data we process is provided by you, for example, by filling out a donation form, signing up for the newsletter, or signing a petition.
- The processing of personal data is necessary for the performance of a contract. For example, you have given an authorization, and this data is processed to enable the transaction.
- The processing of personal data is necessary for compliance with legal obligations. Think of the legal retention period for financial data for tax authorities.
- Finally, we process personal data based on legitimate interest. We do this to build a sustainable relationship. We want our new (fundraising) campaigns to suit you as best as possible. We also use your data to improve the effectiveness of our services through statistical analyses. We believe that processing personal data based on legitimate interest has little impact on your privacy. If you disagree, please read the section ‘Right to Object’.
Data security
We ensure the security of your data in two ways. First, our database (the system in which personal data is stored) and server are well-secured. Second, only employees authorized to process personal data as part of their job have access to the database. This way, we ensure the security of your data.
Retention period
Your personal data is stored for a longer period. Our goal is to anonymize personal data as soon as it is no longer needed to achieve our objectives. Donation data (such as amount, term, and duration of the donation) is then stored anonymously in the database.
Right to access, correction and deletion
If we have your personal data, you have various rights, namely the right to access, correction, and deletion.
- Access: You have the right to access your personal data. This allows you to check which data we have stored.
- Correction: You can ask us to correct or supplement your personal data.
- Deletion: You can ask us to delete your personal data. This is possible if we no longer need your data for the purpose for which it was processed. For example, collecting a donation.
You can exercise these rights by submitting a written request.
We will respond to your request within four weeks. It may happen that we reject a request. A rejection is always explained in writing. We only reject a request if necessary, for example, when we cannot establish identity. You can find our contact details under the section ‘Right to Object’ (scroll down).
Transferring information
You can instruct us to forward personal data, processed based on your consent or to perform a contract, to another organization or foundation. You can request an editable output of your data from us. This is called the right to data portability.
Right to object
The right to object means you can oppose the use of your personal data for communication or fundraising activities.

Filing a complaint
It is always possible to file a complaint about the use of your personal data. You can do this directly with us or with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Privacy
We are aware that every campaign carried out impacts consumer privacy. Think, for example, of signing a petition. You quickly leave your name, email address, and phone number. We promise to pay attention to your privacy early on, ensuring minimal impact on your privacy.
Provision to third parties
We work with various organizations to optimize our services. This may mean your data is processed by a third party. This privacy statement always guides this. Additionally, we enter into a data processing agreement with these parties. This third party is now called a processor. In the agreement, we specify how this processor handles personal data. This includes keeping all data and information confidential, securing the data, and specifying the purposes for which the personal data is processed. Aside from our processors, we never provide your data to third parties without your consent.
Personal data outside of the EU
We have agreements with our processors that no personal data may be processed outside the EU.
