On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, it is once again World Lab Animal Day, a day when we focus on the need for animal-free research. For us, it’s the day to organize our annual Proefdiervrij Event and announce the winner of the Proefdiervrij Venture Challenge. Will you be at the Proefdiervrij Event of 2024? When is it time to celebrate?
We are convinced that laboratory animals will one day be obsolete thanks to the development and implementation of animal-free research. When we reach this day there will of course be a big party – but along the way, there are many more achievements worth celebrating.
During the Proefdiervrij Event, we reflect on the progress we have already made in our pursuit of animal-free science. By recognizing and celebrating successes, we create a positive environment that motivates everyone to keep going. It is important for all of us to determine which milestones are important as a community on the road to an animal-free world. By defining these milestones, we can lay out and execute our strategy together.
The event also provides a great opportunity to brainstorm and plan new steps for the future of animal-free research together.
Announcing the winner of the Proefdiervrij Venture Challenge
In addition to inspiring speakers, interactive sessions, and of course a drink at the end, the winner of the Proefdiervrij Venture Challenge 2024 will also be announced during the event. The Proefdiervrij Venture Challenge is a competition in which four teams of animal-free researchers are guided in setting up their own business, turning their scientific breakthroughs in the life sciences into a thoughtful business case.
The teams are:
- HeLLO R&D (UMC Utrecht)
- Team BTH (Utrecht University)
- StemXBio (LUMC)
- NeuroGut Insights (University of Twente)
By combining our knowledge and skills, we can raise the bar for better, more humane results based on innovative alternative methods. You can read more about the teams of the Proefdiervrij Venture Challenge here.
