On April 24, World Laboratory Animal Day, we gathered at CORPUS – a place where the human body takes center stage. It could hardly have been more symbolic: because if we showed anything that day, it is that science and compassion go together perfectly.
Together we looked ahead to a world in which laboratory animals are no longer needed. And that was palpable, in the conversations, in the energy and in the concrete plans that were shared.
Were you there? We hope you were as inspired as we were. Curious about the photos or want to talk further about collaboration? Then be sure to scroll through!
Unlocking Potential
The title of the event was Unlocking Potential for a reason. The potential is there: in science, among entrepreneurs, within policy and among students. During the event we showed that animal-free innovations are not just a pipe dream, but are ready to be applied. It is time for implementation!

HeartSmart wins Proefdiervrij Venture Challenge 2025
An absolute highlight: the presentation of the Proefdiervrij Venture Challenge 2025. The big winner was team HeartSmart: their animal-free heart model is not only accurate and efficient, but also free of animal materials such as Matrigel. They won €25,000 as well as a big push toward the realization of their model.
The other finalists – including Nydus R&D, 2ndB and BioGrid – also showed how promising animal-free technology can be. The future is not later, but now!

We’re only going UP
We look back on a day full of connection, innovation and vigor. A day on which it became clear: if we work together, we can really make an impact. Science that is good for people and animals is possible – and closer than you think.
Thanks to everyone who was there and until the next step towards an animal-free future!
